The dentists differentiate 4 forms of caries. Actually the name of each form shows the degree of damage of the firm tooth tissues:
- Carious spot
- Caries of enamel
- Median caries
- Deep caries
The bacteria contained in the
dental calculus affect different people in different ways. Some organisms practically cannot resist the ruinous influence of the bacteria while other people will observe caries much later. The ability to resist the carious disease depends on the condition of the persons immune system and additional factors (diseases) that ruin the immune system. It is a scientifically proven fact that people with weak immune system are more prone to caries. For example, if a child has rachitis or diathesis exudativa caries will develop twice faster comparing to the development of caries of a healthy child.
Nowadays there are more than 400 different theories explaining the reasons that cause caries. One of the theories presupposes lack of the mouth cavity hygiene as the basic cause of caries. If one does not clean his teeth regularly and properly soft
dental deposit may appear in out-of-the-way places (usually in recesses or on side surfaces of teeth). Such dental deposit is a perfect place for various bacteria and fungi.
Rotting is the exact translation of the word "caries". Some time ago this term was used to denote inflammatory process of the bone tissues (or osteomyelitis). Nowadays this word is used to denote the disease of the firm bone tissues followed by the destruction of the dentine layer and teeth enamel.
If you do not treat caries in time it may cause such complications as pulpitis or periodontitis. Sometimes lack of dentin and teeth enamel (brygmus, wedge-shaped defect, and hypoplasia) may follow neglected caries. Still, these diseases are not always caused by caries and can have different causes. Do not neglect your teeth. See the dentist regularly. In this case caries (especially neglected one) will not be your problem.
Many people in Russia are not satisfied with the quality of free dental care. That is why here is a stereotype that there is no need to see a dentist unless it is absolutely necessary. That is why people postpone treatment of teeth. They are ready to see the dentist only when the pain is awful and the patient cant stand it.
Night gritting of teeth during sleep is most frequent with pre-school children though adults can also suffer bruxism. That is why it would be wrong to say that only children suffer bruxism. There are many suppositions as for the reason of this problem. Many people say that helminthes cause bruxism. On the other hand, the scientists believe that bruxism is caused by the abnormality of the depth of sleep. Some people believe that night gritting of teeth during sleep can be caused by malocclusion. Still, the majority of people believe that bruxism is the disease of people who are under stress, feel excited, depressed, or angry. These are the typical adult problems. Sometimes even healthy and happy people can suffer attacks of bruxism.
Chairman of the Australian dental Association (ADA) Oral Health Committee, Dr Peter Alldritt, said the number of Australians, whitening, teeth whitening, is steadily growing, and most of the people know little about the potential risks to security, the various means of teeth whitening. Teeth whitening can cause side-effects, such as increased sensitivity of teeth, gums, and non-uniform color of the teeth, and some of these changes may be irreversible.
To prevent damage to the people who consider having their teeth whitened should consult your dentist to ensure their teeth suitable for teeth whitening. Having your teeth whitened by someone other than the dentist is risky, - these people don't have sufficient knowledge and training when it comes to teeth and that increases the likelihood that you may suffer damage teeth and oral cavity.
