Sialoadenitis. Treatment of sialoadenitis

Sialoadenitis is an inflammation process of salivary glands that causes formation of calculi in salivary glands. There is a variety of manifestations of sialoadenitis: salivolithiasis, calculous sialoadenitis, sialolithiasis. The disease can cause obstruction of the gland that, consequently, will lead to inflammation and intermitting swelling of the gland accompanied by severe pains. These pains are caused by calculi that weight upon the salivary glands. Calculi are usually located in mandibular glands.

Epidemic parotiditis - mumps

Epidemic parotiditis is an infectious disease which is also called mumps or parotitis. The main symptoms of mumps are: fever, intoxication of the whole organism, and salivary glands involvement. There are cases when sexual glands (or other glands) as well as the nervous system are affected by the disease. Mumps is caused by a very infectious virus.

Pericoronitis complicated by periostitis

Pericoronitis is an inflammatory process of gum tissues that surround wisdom tooth. Everything begins when the wisdom tooth erupts. The process itself is far from pleasant though all people will have to experience it sooner or later. Feelings caused by eruption of wisdom teeth are very individual. Some people suffer severe pain while other people barely notice the process. Pericoronitis does not necessarily follow wisdom tooth eruption. The disease begins when the wisdom tooth starts pressing other teeth.

Parodontal abscess complicated by periostitis

Parodontal abscess is a fluctuating swelling of the attached gum. It has clear contours and semicircular shape. It can be developing through the mucogingival border up to the upper vestibulum. Parodontal abscess is usually caused by marginal periodontitis. Every medical student knows that if parodontal abscess is not treated in time and properly, melting of oral mucosa is inevitable. Then pus will flow through the newly formed sinus tract. There are cases when parodontal abscess is complicated by periostitis.

Exacerbation of chronic periodontitis and periostitis

Exacerbation of chronic periodontitis occurs during treatment: being removed from the root canal, decay products of root pulp get into the periodontium. Exacerbation of chronic periodontitis can be also provoked by irritation that is caused by using aggressive medicines for antiseptic treatment of root canal. On the other hand, exacerbation of chronic periodontitis is often caused by various traumas that occur while filling the root canal.

Dental dislocation and root fracture

One can fracture root of the tooth at different height. There are 3 main types of fractures according to the one-thirds of teeth coronal, median, and apical fractures. Traumas of teeth are distinguished according to the anatomical organization of root of tooth. Fractures may affect neurovascular fascicle, cement and dentine. All these types of fractures demand specific treatment.

Tooth contusion

The main symptom of tooth contusion is pain caused by percussion or biting something. Palpation of the mucogingival junction will also cause pain. However, the most important symptom of tooth contusion is change of color of the crown. It is caused by hemorrhages of pulp tissues. After trauma crown of the tooth becomes pink. Tooth contusion demands serious treatment. First of all it is necessary to trepanize the tooth cavity and remove the damaged pulp. This procedure is rather painful. This is why anesthesia is used to reduce painful feelings.

Impacted dental dislocation

The term "impacted dental dislocation" is used to denote the situation when the root of the tooth plunges into bone tissues of alveolar ridge or jaw. It is also used to denote complete or partial dislocation of the crown into the alveolus. Impacted dental dislocation is usually caused by a knock on the cutting part of tooth. Impacted dental dislocation is often accompanied by complete rupture of periodontal tissues.

Complication of endodontic treatment

Endodontic treatment is aimed at treating serious dental diseases but sometimes endodontic treatment itself can cause dental problems. This can happen if at least one of the three main rules of endodontic treatment was violated. These three rules are sterilization, cleaning and obstruction of root canals. Everything seems to be easy but sometimes dentists do make mistakes and endodontic treatment is followed by various complications.

Postfilling pain

Postfilling pain is a term used to denote pain that appears after the process of filling tooth. Such pain is usually caused by devitalization of pulp. It is used after filling root canals but eventually it ruins pulp.
